Honoring Your Bridal Party

You love your friends for who they are, uniquely. Their differences from you and each other have made them as much an irreplaceable part of your life as the similarities. This is why you have asked them for their support and honorable presence on one of the greatest days of your life. Unfortunately, it is easy to get so swamped with bliss and details during your wedding season that you neglect the bridesmaids and groomsmen ’til last minute (with the exception of general Big Day Wardrobe Pandemonium). So, here are two ways to capture what makes your bridal party special.

1. Document Your Relationship and Tell the Story

One of the most special aspects of your relationship is your story! How you met, the awkward moments, the romantic, movie-worthy encounters, the perspectives of others. It’s great to here people say things like, “They bring out the absolute best in each other” and know that they truly mean it.

Why not ask your bridesmaids and groomsmen to document your tale so that you’ll never forget the way it all started? Have each member of the bridal party take turn interviewing in front of a camera about how they know you. They can start with your friendship, “We met in college and were best friends right away…” and move into how you met Mr./Miss Right, “So one night, at a mutual friends’ going away party…” If you and your friends don”t have the video equipment, there are many professional wedding video companies that offer this service.

Once everyone has collectively woven together an epic fairytale (keep it real, though, no embellishing necessary), edit the interviews and put them to music. You’ll have a piece good enough for TLC – something meaningful to commemorate the relationships that surrounded you at the start of your journey, and you could always play them back at the reception or cocktail hour.

2. Give a Unique Gift to Each Person

Here’s the test of how well you know your friends, but it doesn’t have to be stressful or expensive: Think about what has brought you and each of your friends together. What has made you close? What are your past times? The answers will help you figure out a gift that is personal for each bridesmaid or groomsman.

If you and your best girlfriend adore antique shopping, a vintage clutch that expresses her style will make a far greater gift than a monogrammed stationary set (unless she has a thing for stationary). If you and your best man are veteran outdoorsmen, a new fishing pole, tent, or something of the like will be just right. You could also think of something special to say when you hand them the gift at the rehearsal dinner and have a wedding videographer there to record that moment in your relationship.

Not every gift has to be the same, and it’s okay if the price tag varies. While it wouldn’t be appropriate to buy a watch for one and a cheap trinket for the other, thoughtfulness does go a long way. Understand that it isn’t necessary to spend a fortune on your party. Sure, they have invested time and dollars for your grand event, but each gift should reflect your appreciation for their friendship, not merely the money they’ve dropped on a dress or tux.

Clothing Boutiques Offer Unique Apparel Items

Have you even been in at an apparel store where clothes are falling off the racks and people are being herded into stuffy dressing rooms? This type of environment can make for a stressful, unpleasant shopping experience. Fortunately, this is the not the type of atmosphere you can expect to find at one of the local, high-end clothing boutiques.

To begin with, these types of shops are much smaller than your average store in a shopping mall. They only carry select pieces and certain sizes. This also means that the store itself is a more pleasant place to shop. The sales associates have the time to be more attentive. They can offer personalized service, help with fittings, and sometimes even a glass of wine to enjoy while you browse. This is certainly a far cry from the experience of fighting over a sale blouse with a customer at one of those other retailers.

Many ladies like to visit clothing boutiques when they are looking for something special. The item could be a new top, an accessory to give someone as a gift, or even a wedding dress. Regardless of what a shopper is trying to find, a boutique can usually offer items that are unlike others found at chain stores. For instance, some clothing boutiques specialize in selling pieces that are made by local clothiers and designers. Other store owners pride themselves on selling eco-friendly apparel. Still others sell pieces that are created with a philanthropic cause in mind. Those that like to be socially conscious with how they spend their money usually find that these kinds of shops offer a lot more for a buck. In many cases, a purchase at one of these specialty shops could actually help a person in need.

Those that vacation in exotic locales often make time to shop at some of the local clothing boutiques. This is especially true if the place in question is well known for being a center of high fashion. Guidebooks are often helpful for people that want to find out where the best shops are located. Picking up a copy of a local fashion and lifestyle magazine is not a bad idea, either. This kind of publication will usually highlight local stores that carry eclectic garments and things made by the top designers in the area. Then, all that is left is to do is to find the perfect piece. It will serve as a reminder of your trip to a very cosmopolitan place.

Save Money on Wedding Invitations

Some of the very first things that you will list among those involving expenditure, are the wedding invitations apart from your wedding ring. On one hand you want your invitations to be unique, classy and of good quality, while on the other hand, you will probably also look to save as much money as possible on them. Well, everyone does that, so, here are some tips to manage your invitations in a way that you can afford them as well as impress your family and friends too.

1. First and foremost, keep your guest list as small as possible.

The more people you add to your invitation list, the more the number of invitations you are going to send, which in turn means more expenses. Therefore, take time to create a list of selected guests in order to have all your close relatives and friends included without offending anyone, and without compromising your budget. It is always better to pre-inform some of your close relatives and friends about your wedding, so that you can get a fair estimate of the number of people who will be able to make it to your wedding party. For those guests who will not be able to attend your wedding in time, you can send less expensive alternative invitations, so that they can keep a reminder of your special day. Keep in mind, the more the people you invite, the more the number of invitations you need to send them. The more the people attend your wedding, the more will be your expenses. There is nothing wrong in leaving few guests when you can have a private ceremony too. So, choose wisely, when it comes to preparing a guest list for sending invitations.

2. Opt for making your own invitations.

If you are creative enough or know exactly how your invitations should look like, you can opt for making your invitations on your own too. It also adds a personal touch to every invitation making them more special and unique. This way, you can save enough money too to spend it on other important things. You can always ask you friends and family members for a helping hand saving you more time for yourself and money on labor too. Another way to look for designs and help is to search online for unique wedding invitation templates and you can always follow them or get some inspiration from them.

3. Try using less paper and ink.

It is not necessary to have an invitation that should be two-three pages long, instead try keeping it as short and concise as possible without swaying away from your traditional invitation style so that it should look like a proper invitation too. It will also save you money and its conciseness will impart it a classy and sophisticated look. You can add you ring-ceremony or your fiancé photos as a backdrop to impart it a unique and personal look. Use single ink and keep the borders to minimum. The purpose is, to make those invitations look unique, tasteful, and interesting enough for your guests to attend the ceremony without costing you much. You can spend the saved money on some fabulous dress and a great party that your guests will be remembering until the end

Wedding Anniversary Gifts

Wedding anniversaries have special personal significance. Each additional year is a milestone in the life a couple. It encapsulates the daily struggles in life, the memorable moments of happiness, and the simple joys of being with each other, and celebrates yet another year of togetherness. It is a triumph of a personal sort for couples, for all of us are aware of that living together requires much more than just love for each other. A wedding anniversary gift exchange is a tangible symbol of love that grows stronger with each passing year. It signifies that a person still occupies a special place in the heart. It provides an opportunity to couples to sit back and reminiscence about the golden moments of their life that often gets obliterated in routine drudgery. A special gift often rekindles dying romance in a couple’s life.

The traditional concepts of paper, cotton, leather, fruit and flowers, wood gifts, in the initial wedding years found its genesis in England. Englishmen in olden times presented their brides with a paper gift in the first year, silver wreath in the 25th year and golden wreath in the 50th year of their wedding, as a celebration of a successful marriage. Whether a gift is traditional, extravagant, creative or emotional depends solely on the giver. A traditional gift can be given some creative, ingenious and modern touches to make it stand out.

For example: a paper frame with a beautiful metal clock, an leather album with the wife’s and husband’s name engraved in gold, or two Broadway paper tickets and a romantic candlelight dinner afterwards might be suitable. You can also give a vintage cotton cloth or a cotton dress wrapped around some ornament or perfume, customized cotton pillow and quilt set with the couples pictures printed on it. Or a fruit bowl made out of a beautiful decorative bowl can also twist tradition and add some personal touch as well.

Theme parties are some fun options for those who enjoy parties. Gift certificates for two given to husband or wives to enjoy the tropical Florida sun, dive to watch corals, and undertake an adventure trip or a refreshing spa experience are wonderful unconventional gifts.

A gift’s purpose is not to follow traditions or display extravagance. The encoded message of love is communicated successfully when it is chosen or created and sealed with love. A handmade scrapbook or an album with photos of the most memorable moments in the couple’s marriage may not be a pricey display of love, but there is perhaps nothing more precious than such personal thoughtful gifts. It displays the effort, time and energy one has put in.

The Making of a $6,000 Dog Dress

At the February 2012 Pre Westminster fashion show in New York City dogs of all sizes, dressed and accessorized to the nines, made their appearance with their equally adorned human counterparts. The theme this year was Masquerade Ball and attendees donned their masks and began the evening with “Puptials”, where the four seasons were represented in canine wedding apparel. One of the evening’s most anticipated events was the fashion show in which the furry participants strutted along the runway wearing elaborately designed pet apparel. Designers of canine couture were represented from across the country. Each designer carefully crafted their best and produced stunning apparel but a few went over the top and integrated the details found only in the pet closets of the rich and possibly famous. One such creation, valued at six thousand dollars, could be found in the intricate detailing by Florida based designer Kelly Owens.

Designer Kelly Owens created a dazzling dress worn by Misto, a tiny two pound Chihuahua. Found on Ms. Owen’s creation were four thousand Swarovski crystals. The opulence continued into a purple ruffled skirt which was also embellished with the shimmering Swarovski crystals. If Misto’s dress was not dazzling enough the dress was accentuated with a Swarovski crystal belt and drop brooch at the neckline as the finishing touch.

So what goes into the making of a six thousand dollar dog dress? For Ms. Owens it all began, as do most creative works, with the inspiration piece. Ms. Owens was commissioned to create an
apparel piece for a client’s dog that was to be covered in sparkling crystals. Her client included a picture of her crystalcovered Christian Louboutin high heel shoe for inspiration.

Armed with the inspiration piece the planning stage came next. Ms. Owens and her client worked on the styling and other details for about two months. Once the design was finalized and a final test fitting on tiny Misto was done further research was needed on the intricate layout of the crystals. Once the final layout had been formed Ms. Owens began her search for supplies. Four different sized crystals in two coordinating colors were selected. Flatback Swarovski crystals were chosen due to their additional brilliance resulting from a special chemically bonded coating. Two colors were selected, the AB crystal, which stands for Aurora Borealis and gives off a rainbow-like effect and Tanzanite. The research and gathering of supplies took approximately twenty-five hours of her project time.

The creating stage came next and Ms. Owens spent eighty painstaking hours hand placing each crystal as close to each other as possible on the bodice of the dress. The placing of
the crystals in a repeating pattern over the lower edge of the three layered graduated skirt took up nearly half of that time due to its length prior to ruffling. The meticulously
crafted dress debuted at the PreWest Minster Fashion show.

Exhausted but undefeated Ms. Owens is already in the process of creating yet another sparkling masterpiece in which one hundred dollars of the sale from every piece from her crystal collection will go to the buyer’s choice of charity.

Kelly Owens is the founder of KO Couture and began designing for pets in 2009. Her first creation was for her Yorkie, KC. In addition to the inspiration KC and her Chihuahua, Amore provide her, Ms. Owens finds the inspiration for many of her one-of-a-kind designs in human fashion, jewelry, nature, and artwork.

The Pre Westminster Fashion Show is the brain child of Ada Nieves, designer of fashionable apparel for pets. A portion of the proceeds from the event goes toward animal rescue and other pet related charities.

Fall Wedding Decorations

The first thing to start thinking about when planning a fall wedding is your colors. You want to pick warm colors to decorate the aisle for your ceremony. Pew decorations in any of these shades are great suggestions: Burnt sienna, red, orange, and mustard. A modern fall color scheme is chocolate brown with light blue accents.

A cream, ivory, or off-white color wedding gown is best. Since fall weather is very unpredictable, bridesmaids can wear a strapless style dress with a wrap. This way, they will be comfortable and stylish no matter what the temperature is! My sister got lucky at her October wedding. She lived in a southern state with completely unpredictable cold fronts. Luckily, one came on her wedding day and it was a perfect cool crisp night for her reception. What if a cold front had not come through? The bridesmaids would have taken off their wraps and been fine!

Add a unique detail to your ceremony by giving the flower girl silk fall leaves to scatter instead of petals.

An old Inn or Bed & Breakfast is an ideal place for a fall wedding reception. (Remember the Inn where the mother works on The Gilmore Girls? Either of these locations will give that same small-town romantic feel to your guests.) A vineyard or apple orchard is another great idea.

If you happen to live in Florida, where you cannot see any signs of the changing seasons, search for an indoor venue with rich dark wood and warmth. One example is a university club.

Haystacks can be placed outside the entrance to the reception for a stylish decoration. Adding details like ribbon will turn them into something elegant! You can also decorate the walkway leading up to the reception location with paper bag luminaries. Or place them throughout the venue.

For something really cute and unique, find or rent an old-fashioned flower cart and use it for your gifts.

You can use pumpkins carved with the names of the couple as table centerpieces. White or blue natural pumpkins will add an elegant and unique touch. Autumn colored candles or votives tied with ribbons in harvest colors also make great fall centerpieces. Remember to use unscented candles at indoor events. Fall is a popular time for allergies. Scents will make allergies even worse.

Add cinnamon sticks and cloves to the wedding punch or drinks for a simple fall touch!

If you love sweet stuff, give out caramel apples wrapped in cellophane for wedding favors.

Beach Resort Weddings – Some Important Tips

Whichever of you want to undergo beach weddings ceremony while getting married to their chosen partner? Come on don’t be shy! Speak out without wasting any further time.

Trust me my dear friends. Beach weddings are one of the most romantic ideas that are liked by people around the globe. Imagine, going on with the ceremony and rituals while the golden sands are sleeping through the fingers of your feet. The sea is making loud roar and tropical winds is blowing in plenty. The sun is spreading its warmth and the winds are trying to get the sands blowing throughout the place. Wow! Isn’t it fascinating? If you are a lover of unique ideas and concepts, then you will definitely love it.

Many beach resort marriage take place at several coastal resort towns. In fact, they can take place at any coastal town available in the entire world. But mostly, these sorts of events are taken place in the tropical islands which features for great scenic beauties along with mouth-watering delicacies and availability of lots of fun filled activities.

However, some destinations are ideal for beach resort weddings. Some of them are Hawaii, Florida or in the Caribbean.. These resort towns are renowned for great activities along with exceptional coastal beauties and lot of activities to undergo.

While you think of hosting and arranging your ceremony in the seaside, you need to keep in mind that the sands available by the sea will not be cool ones unless you arrange for wedding ceremonies after the sunset. Nevertheless, if it takes place during the day when the sun is spreading its enormous presence in the skies, then the sands will be rally heated and the shore will be a warm place. Therefore, it is better that the dresses be slightly modified during day beach activities. The thick and gorgeous gowns usually are not ideal choice. Instead, much lighter gowns made from natural materials are usually preferred. For men, it is suggested that wearing under vests will be appropriate for getting the inner sweat absorbed while keeping the outer clothes drier and feeling much cooler.

However, for ceremonies during the day- time, the best time to hold for such event is at the early morning or in the late afternoon. During these specific periods of time, the heat form the sun is less strong if compared with the ones that are during the mid-days and early afternoons.

While organizing resort weddings, you should keep in mind that the event depends on the mercy of weather Gods. As a result, you well prepare for all the calamities of nature and should have suitable arrangements to cope up if such calamities take place during the wedding ceremony period.

Dream Wedding – The Time, Place & People

Weddings are wonderful! Attending a wedding can enable you to access a variety of emotions all in one event. The feelings of love, loss, life’s transitions, maturation, memories shared prior to matrimony and familial bonds are all to be explored and experienced at a wedding.

Weddings are a time when family and friends come together to celebrate, commemorate and commence a new page in one’s life. The amazing expressions of love from family, friends and acquaintances comfort, assure and secure the heart.

We had a very special wedding day unlike most. Karla and I come from two different countries – Canada and the United States respectively. When we were married there were many preparations involved beyond the typical wedding. I had to coordinate the travel for my grooms men and care for their accommodations. Not to mention I had to get their tuxedos for them before they could ever try them on for proper fitting.

The added stress of marrying a woman from abroad and participating in the coordinating of the wedding allowed me as a man to experience what women go through to plan a wedding. Many men remain happily clueless concerning all of the pre-wedding matters. I myself in this case was not exempt but got a full glimpse of the goings on.

Karla is an amazing organizer and gives specific attention to every detail. She has a keen eye and elegant style that enables her to stand out in all she does. Her loving added touches to everything makes every aspect of a wedding beautiful and delightful to experience. Karla chose to implement a beach theme in which she decorated the tables with sea shells, sea sand and tea lights.

Karla’s dress was exquisite and gorgeous, but not as breathtaking as she herself. We had an outdoor wedding at the Ancaster Old Mill, Ontario on September 3, 2006 . We were warmly surrounded by family and friends. The wedding minister officiated the ceremony with such grace and an added personal touch, that my father said it was the best ceremony he had ever seen performed.

We were blessed to conduct the wedding outdoors and that with a 90% chance of rain just days before. Hurricane Ernesto apparently had followed my parents up from Florida bringing much rain that weekend. Thankfully however the rain subsided just before our 6pm ceremony and the sun came out in time for pictures afterward. The Creator and Almighty Matchmaker that brought us together also showed Himself strong to in regard to the weather.

The celebration following the wedding ceremony was both lovely and life-giving. My best man Richard Vera from Maui, Hawaii gave a toast and made mention of our 15 years of history. Richard recognized that God above had blessed this union and in bringing Karla to me fulfilled my dreams. Karla and I spoke about each other from the heart, reciting our relational history and journey of love leading up to marriage. Together we recognized and thanked our parents for their unprecedented contribution to our lives.

The help Karla’s brides maids gave her to prepare for this lovely event was monumental. They even helped further to remove all of the decorations and gifts before we left to go on honeymoon. This north American alliance forged between this American and his Canadian bride came together easily. Though we only had four months to prepare for the wedding, following our engagement in Paris, everything worked out rather well.

Now September 6th we are in New Zealand in transit to Fiji, where we shall be on honeymoon. Karla is catching up on some much needed sleep (on a nearby couch) as she recooperates from the wedding and international travel. I the author am writing to declare the marvelous works of our God – the Almighty Matchmaker!

Unique Wedding Venues – Wet Wild & Wacky

Want to get married in a unique wedding location that is as unique as the two of you? Forget the same-ol’-same-‘ol venue and go for something wet, wild or wacky.

You have many choices when it comes to water weddings. You can have a submarine wedding in Hawaii, a snorkeling wedding in the Caribbean, or a wedding on a tall ship in Chicago. Or, you can push the envelope just a little bit further and go for something truly unique – a wedding in the world’s only underwater hotel.

The Jules’ Undersea Lodge in Key Largo, Florida is truly underwater, with guests having to scuba dive 21 feet beneath the surface of the sea and enter through an opening in the bottom of the lodge. Wedding ceremonies are held inside the lodge, which consists of a wet room entrance area, two bedrooms and a common room, which is a combination kitchen, dining and living room area. Imagine having your honeymoon underwater, snuggled in your bed while watching the fish pass by your window.

Your wedding ceremony is conducted by a notary public, who dives down for the service, followed by a toast and the cutting of the cake, which, yes, has remained dry. For dinner you are offered a caviar appetizer and choice of two entrees, either lobster or steak and a hearts of palm salad and dessert. Your meal is prepared by a chef who scuba dives to the lodge. The chef will also scuba dive to the lodge the following morning and prepare breakfast. The Jules’ Undersea Lodge wedding is perfect for those who wish to elope to an unusual location.

The cost for the Jules’ Undersea Lodge is $1,495 plus tax. If you have any extra guests attending the wedding you will be charged an additional $60 per guest. Call (305) 451-2353 for more information.

What could be more wild than a shotgun wedding or a wedding at a haunted hotel?

With a wedding and honeymoon in Oatman, Arizona, you get both. Where’s Oatman, you ask? It’s an historic ghost town 20 miles southeast of Laughlin, Nevada, formerly a thriving mining town during the gold rush. Oatman today is a tourist town with daily wild west shootouts and shotgun weddings. Oatman is also where you’ll find the Oatman Hotel, where, in 1939, Clark Gable and Carole Lombard spent their wedding night.

It’s said the Oatman Hotel is haunted by numerous spirits, including, some say, Clark Gable and Carole Lombard, a former chambermaid and an Irish miner who once lived there. It’s said staff and guests of the hotel have heard the spirits of Gable and Lombard laughing from their honeymoon room. There are also reports of the sound of bagpipes coming from the room of the Irish miner, whose spirit is referred to as “Oatie”

For information regarding shotgun weddings, you can call 928-768-8063 or 928-768-3839. For reservations to The Oatman Hotel you can call 928-768-4408.

Another wedding venue which many consider haunted is Thayer’s Historic Bed and Breakfast in Annandale, Minnesota, which is owned by a psychic, Sharon Gammell. Thayer’s specializes in interactive mystery dinners, ghost huntings, psychic readings and small weddings, which, if you choose, can be officiated by Gammell. Built in 1895, Thayer’s Historic Bed and Breakfast is said to be the home of several ghosts, including the original owners, Caroline and Gus Thayer and some of their friends. And, for you cat lovers, Thayer’s is also the home of three resident ghost cats (as well as some living cats).

Annandale is just a little over an hour’s drive from the Twin Cities International Airport. For more information call 800-944-6595.

For one of the wackiest wedding experiences, try Star Trek the Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton, where you can have your ceremony on the Bridge of the USS Enterprise 1701-D. You minister will perform your wedding ceremony dressed in Starfleet outfits while intergalactic wedding music plays in the background. Depending on the Wedding package you choose, you can have your choice of one to three Star Trek characters present at your wedding: Klingon, Ferengi or BORG.

You can also choose to have your wedding reception inside Quark’s Bar or the Captain’s Lounge, depending on the size of your wedding party. You can have your choice of different reception menus, but I’d definitely go for the Romulan Warbird, which is a marinated chicken breast served with wild rice pilaf and seasonal vegetables. Wedding cakes come with the Star Trek logo on them.

Hopefully some of the above wedding ideas will either appeal to you, or get you thinking about other creative and unique ways to celebrate your wedding. Maybe wet, wild and wacky weddings aren’t your thing. Maybe eloping to Hawaii or Las Vegas is what you want. Whatever you decide to do, make it special.
